Early Start Collaborations
The Early Start Comprehensive System of Personnel Development is a collaborative effort sponsored by the California Department of Developmental Services through a structure that defines the California Department of Education as an administratively responsible partner in service delivery and other state agencies, including the departments of Social Services and Health Care Services, as collaborating partners.
WestEd Center for Prevention & Early Intervention collaborates with DDS to administer and execute many aspects of Early Start to assist in achieving the full participation, cooperation, and coordination of appropriate public and private agencies that serve young children and their families.
In its role as lead agency, DDS identified and partners with the public and private systems and stakeholders that serve children age birth to 3 years of age with special needs and their families. Among those collaborators are the State Interagency Coordinating Council on Early Intervention, the Training and Technical Assistance Collaborative, and the Statewide Screening Collaborative.
